Hermes vs Metabirkin

Hermès Secures Trademark in Web3 Space: French luxury brand Hermès has taken a significant step to secure its name in the Web3 space by filing for a trademark. This move comes after a prominent legal battle with Mason Rothschild, creator of the Metabirkin NFTs, which began last December.

The trademark application aims to protect a range of Web3-related goods and services, including software for creating and managing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on blockchain technology. It also covers downloadable software for trading, viewing, storing, and managing virtual assets such as digital collectibles, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs, as well as digital wearables, accessories, and toys authenticated by NFTs.

Hermès is also planning for the metaverse, seeking to include protection for virtual and augmented reality technologies. This includes virtual reality headsets, wearable computer peripherals designed for virtual reality, VR glasses, holograms, and shirts embedded with sensors for VR use. Additionally, the trademark covers virtual reality gloves and software files for interacting with and managing virtual environments, goods, and characters.

In addition to NFTs and virtual reality, Hermès’ trademark application encompasses retail services for digital wearables, an online marketplace for virtual goods transactions, and financial services related to the electronic transfer of virtual currencies for use with digital collectibles and NFTs.
